Burnaby Area is putting on a Winter Fun Afternoon where the youth can work on a few winter skills.  Like all Area events this is a collaborative one where all participants also contribute.

Participation in an Area Winter Beaveree or Section Winter Challenge is one of the requirements for the Winter Skills Stage 1 badge.  In the Lower Mainland, winter is variable year to year. This year we were surprised by a significant and prolonged snowfall followed by a sudden thaw that impacted our planning. As a result, our Winter Fun at Mount Seymour this coming weekend will either be “end of winter” or “fun in the snow”. We’ll see!

We’ll be playing some fun games as well as taking care of another two Stage 1 criteria: hike minimum 1km and keeping water bottles from freezing. Hot chocolate will be served. Registration for this event is  done with group scouters.

For next year, the Burnaby Area Beaver Scouters are considering scheduling Winter Fun Day in mid-January in place of the Winter Sleepover.
